Why Are My Instagram Ads Not Delivering? 9 Causes and Fixes
Quick answer
Instagram ads usually stop delivering because the ad is still in review or was rejected, the post is not eligible to boost, Instagram is not selected in your placements, or your audience and budget are too small for Meta to find results. Start by opening the ad in Ads Manager and reading its delivery status, then check the cause list below in order. If you boosted from the Instagram app, check Meta's eligibility rules first, because a Reel with licensed music cannot be boosted at all. From October 28, 2026, product browsing can also change what happens after someone taps your ad, so some "not delivering" complaints are really "not reaching my store."
What does it mean if my Instagram ad is not delivering?
It means Meta is not showing the ad, or is showing it so little that you see almost no spend. Searches like "Instagram ad approved but not delivering" and "why is my Instagram ad not spending" cover two different problems:
- The ad cannot run. It is in review, rejected, ineligible or blocked by an account problem.
- The ad can run but Meta is not picking it. Placements, audience, budget or creative are holding it back.
Ads Manager tells you which one you have. Look at the Delivery column for the campaign, ad set and ad. A status like "In review," "Rejected" or "Not delivering" with a note points to the first group. "Active" with tiny spend points to the second.
Why is my boosted Instagram post or Reel not running?
Boosting from the Instagram app has its own rules. Meta's help center lists these for boosted Reels:
- Reels must be 90 seconds or less and in full screen 9:16 vertical format.
- Reels cannot use licensed music. Meta recommends its Sound Collection or original audio instead.
- Reels published before October 15, 2021 cannot be used.
- Reels with face or camera effects, GIFs, product tags, interactive stickers or third party filters are not eligible.
- Reels already shared to Facebook cannot be boosted.
Meta's troubleshooting page also lists error messages such as "Reels containing tappable elements cannot be boosted" and "This video's resolution is too low and can't be used." Both mean the post itself is the problem, so pick a different post or upload a better version.
You also need a professional Instagram account, and the boost has to connect to the right Meta ad account. If you see "We're unable to connect to your Meta ad account" or the ad is not showing in Ad tools, Meta suggests managing the ad from instagram.com, Ads Manager or Meta Business Suite instead of the app.
Boosted posts vs Ads Manager. A boost is quick but gives you fewer controls. If your boosted post keeps failing, create the ad in Ads Manager with the same post. You get the full delivery status, placement controls and clearer error messages.
How long does it take for Instagram ads to start running?
Every ad goes through review first. Meta's help center says your ad "will begin running after it's been reviewed and approved," and you get a notification when it is approved or disapproved. If it sits in review much longer than usual, check that nothing else is blocking it, such as a payment problem.
If the ad was rejected, Meta's help center gives you three choices: edit the ad, which sends it back for review automatically; create a new ad; or request another review in Business Support Home if you think the rejection was wrong. Meta says it aims to decide re-reviews within 48 hours. Do not delete the rejected ad if you want to appeal, because Meta warns you may lose the ability to request another review.
Could my account or page be restricted?
Yes. Meta says severe or repeated ad violations can lead it to restrict your business account, ad account, Page or user account from advertising. A restricted account will not deliver anything, however good the ad is. Check Account Quality in Meta Business Suite. If the restriction looks wrong, request a review there.
Also check payments. Meta's troubleshooting page lists "Ad payment info is unavailable" as a common boost error. A failed card or a spending limit you hit will stop delivery across every campaign.
Why is my Instagram ad active but not getting views?
When the ad is approved but barely spends, check these in order:
- Placement settings. If you chose manual placements and left out Instagram Feed, Stories, Reels or Explore, the ad will not show there. Break results down by placement in Ads Manager to see where it actually ran.
- Audience too small. A narrow audience gives Meta few people to show the ad to. Widen locations, ages or interests, or use a broad audience.
- Budget too low. A very small daily budget may not be enough for Meta to deliver against your goal. Raise it, or pick a goal that happens more often.
- Creative format and aspect ratio. Stories and Reels are full screen vertical placements. A square or wide video may be cropped or shown less. Use 9:16 vertical video for Reels and Stories, and check the Meta Ads Guide for the specs.
- Too many edits. Each big edit can reset learning. Make one change, then wait a day before judging.
If everything looks right and delivery fell for every campaign at once, check whether Meta itself is having problems. Check metastatus.com, Meta's own status page, for Ads Delivery problems.
Did the October 28 product browsing change affect my Instagram ads?
It may change what happens after the tap. From October 28, 2026, Meta adds product browsing to existing ads unless you opted out, so some people who tap your Instagram ad first see product details and suggestions inside Instagram instead of your store. Your ad can be delivering fine while fewer people land on your site. We explain how to switch it off on each ad in Meta product browsing is on from October 28: should you turn it off?
How do I check whether it is hurting my sales?
Ads Manager only shows you Meta's side. Open your store and compare sessions and orders from Instagram for the last 7 days with the 7 days before. If spend held steady but sessions and orders fell, something between the ad and your store is broken: delivery, the tap destination or the landing page. Work out ROAS from real orders, meaning revenue your store recorded from Meta traffic divided by spend in Ads Manager. If Meta's ROAS looks fine but store ROAS dropped, trust the store.

FAQ
Why is my Instagram ad approved but not delivering?
Usually placements, audience size or budget. Check that Instagram placements are on, widen the audience and make sure the budget fits the goal you picked.
Can I boost a Reel with a popular song?
Not if it uses licensed music. Meta's help center says boosted Reels cannot use licensed music, so swap it for audio from the Sound Collection or original audio.
Is there a glitch going on with Instagram right now?
Check metastatus.com, Downdetector and r/FacebookAds. If all three are quiet, the problem is likely in your account or ad.
