Meta Product Browsing Is On From October 28: Should You Turn It Off?
Quick answer
From October 28, 2026, Meta adds "product browsing" to ads that are already running on Facebook and Instagram, unless you opted out. When someone taps your ad, they may first see product details and suggestions inside Facebook or Instagram instead of going straight to your store. If you missed the opt out button, you can still switch it off on each ad in its Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings.
What changed today?
Around October 14, Meta sent advertisers a notice that read: "Starting October 28, 2026, we'll add product browsing to your existing ads." The notice said people who tap an ad "may see an experience on Facebook or Instagram with product info and personalized suggestions."
Product browsing is not a new feature. It already sat among the Advantage+ creative enhancements, and you could turn it on for one ad at a time. What changed is the default for live ads: it moved from off to on.
As of mid October, trade site PPC Land reported that Meta had not published a Help Center page, changelog or newsroom post about it. Everything known comes from the notice itself.
Why should a store owner care?
Three reasons, all about what happens after the tap.
Your store may be skipped at first. Your product page, your offer, your reviews and your checkout are where you win the sale. An in app page now sits in front of them for some shoppers.
Your numbers can shift without anything changing on your store. Fewer people may land on your site while Meta reports similar or higher conversions. If you compare Ads Manager with Shopify or Google Analytics, expect a gap to open.
Creative tests get harder to read. Media buyer David Herrmann wrote on LinkedIn that in his experience, traffic credited to one creative was really coming from a product carousel Meta built around it, and Ads Manager did not show the difference. That is his account from his own clients, not confirmed by Meta, but it is worth checking in your own account.
What does Meta's 3% claim actually mean?
Meta says businesses saw "3% more conversions" on average, based on a test run August 6 to 21, 2026 across about 117,700 advertisers.
The notice does not say which conversions were counted, whether they happened on your site or inside Meta's apps, or what happened to cost per purchase and ROAS. More conversions at a higher cost would still fit the claim. Treat it as Meta's number to test, not a forecast for your store.
Should I turn product browsing off?
There is no single answer, so decide per account:
- Keep it on and test if you sell from a product catalog, have simple products and a short path to checkout.
- Turn it off if your sale depends on your own page: bundles, offers that only exist on your site, long product stories, subscriptions or lead forms.
- Turn it off for now if you are in the middle of a landing page test or setting your Black Friday baseline. A change between the tap and your page will mix up the results.
Whatever you choose, write down the date and which accounts you changed, so you can explain any jump in your reports later.
How do I check and change it on each ad?
- Open Ads Manager and go to your highest spend ads first.
- Edit the ad and open the Advantage+ Creative settings and the Destination section.
- Find product browsing and set it the way you want.
- Repeat for every live ad that matters. The notice does not say whether its opt out button covered all your ad accounts, so check each one.
- Check new ads you create after October 28 too. The notice does not say whether new ads start with it on.
How do I see if it is hurting sales?
Set a baseline this week, before Black Friday traffic arrives:
- Write down link clicks in Ads Manager and sessions from Meta in your store analytics, day by day.
- Write down Meta reported purchases next to real orders from Shopify or WooCommerce.
If clicks hold steady but sessions on your store fall, more taps are stopping inside Meta. If Meta's purchases rise but your real orders do not, the reporting has changed, not your sales. Judge ROAS on your real orders.

FAQ
What is Meta product browsing?
It is a creative enhancement that may show shoppers product details and personalized suggestions inside Facebook or Instagram after they tap your ad, before they reach your website.
Can I still opt out after October 28?
Yes. Meta's notice says you can turn product browsing on or off any time in each ad's Advantage+ Creative and Destination settings.
Will product browsing lower my website traffic?
It can. Some shoppers may browse your products inside Meta's apps first, so sessions on your store can fall even when Meta reports the same or more conversions. Compare link clicks with store sessions to see it.
Is there a tool that tells me if a Meta change is costing me sales?
Yes. Run1Ads reads your Meta ad account through the official Marketing API, compares Meta's numbers with what happens on your store, and tells you the one fix that matters today. It advises only and never changes your ads unless you ask.
