Meta Pixel Not Tracking Purchases? A Step by Step Fix

Quick answer

If your Meta Pixel is not tracking purchases, the cause is almost always one of five things: the Purchase event never fires on the thank you page, it fires without value and currency, two Pixels or apps fight each other, the Conversions API is missing or not deduplicated, or iPhone privacy and consent banners hide some buyers. Work through Events Manager first, then the Meta Pixel Helper, then your store setup. Finish by comparing Meta purchases with your real orders, because that ratio tells you whether the fix worked. From November 12, 2026, a new Pixel setting will also change how many purchases Meta counts, so check your baseline now.

Why is my Meta Pixel not tracking purchases?

Most stores do not have a broken Pixel. They have a Pixel that tracks page views and add to cart fine, then goes quiet at checkout. On Shopify, checkout runs on Shopify's own pages, so a Pixel pasted into the theme code often never loads there. On WooCommerce, a caching plugin or a custom thank you page can stop the Purchase event from firing.

The other common pattern is the opposite: Meta shows two or three times more purchases than you really had. That is usually two Pixels, or a Pixel plus a Conversions API feed with no shared event ID.

How do I check the Purchase event in Events Manager?

  1. Open Meta Events Manager and choose your Pixel under Data sources.
  2. In the Overview tab, find Purchase. If it shows no activity for days while you had orders, the event is not reaching Meta.
  3. Open Test events, enter your store address and place a real test order. Watch whether Purchase appears, and whether it arrives from the browser, the server or both.
  4. Click the Purchase event and look at Event match quality. Third party guides describe it as a score out of 10. Low scores usually mean email and phone are not being sent with the event.
  5. Check the Diagnostics tab for warnings about missing parameters or duplicate events. Guides note that warnings can take a few days to clear after a fix.

How do I use the Meta Pixel Helper on my store?

Install the Meta Pixel Helper from the Chrome Web Store. It is Meta's own extension and shows every event that fires on a page and the data it carries.

  1. Visit your product page and add an item to cart. You should see PageView, ViewContent and AddToCart.
  2. Complete a cheap test order and stay on the thank you page.
  3. Look for Purchase. Click it and confirm it shows a value and a currency.
  4. Count the Pixel IDs. If the Helper lists two different IDs, or the same event twice, you have a duplicate setup.

Do I have duplicate Pixels on Shopify or WooCommerce?

This is one of the most common causes. A Pixel was pasted into the theme years ago, then the Facebook and Instagram sales channel app or a WooCommerce plugin was added later. Both now fire.

Pick one method and remove the other. On Shopify, the usual answer is to keep the official Meta sales channel connection and delete the old code from theme.liquid and any checkout scripts. On WooCommerce, keep one plugin and remove hard coded snippets from your header. If people search how to remove Facebook Pixel from Shopify, this is what they need to do.

Is my Purchase event missing value or currency?

A Purchase event without value and currency still counts a sale, but Meta cannot report revenue or optimise for value. Meta's developer documentation shows the expected format: a Purchase event with a value and a currency code such as USD. In the Pixel Helper or Test events, every purchase should show both. If not, check the plugin settings or the data your theme passes into the event.

How do I set up the Conversions API with event_id deduplication?

The Conversions API sends purchases from your server, so it still works when a browser blocks the Pixel. Meta's developer documentation recommends running it alongside the Pixel and calls this a redundant setup.

The catch is deduplication. Meta's documentation says an event is only treated as a duplicate when the Pixel's eventID matches the Conversions API's event_id and the event names match. Events with matching IDs are only deduplicated if they arrive within 48 hours of the first one. Use the order ID as the shared event_id on both sides. Shopify's Meta channel and the main WooCommerce plugins can do this for you when the data sharing setting is set to maximum.

Why are purchases missing on iPhone and iOS?

Since Apple added its App Tracking Transparency prompt, many iPhone users who tap your ad inside Facebook or Instagram cannot be followed to your store the old way. Some of those purchases will never be matched to an ad. Meta fills part of the gap with modelled or aggregated reporting, so the numbers you see are partly estimates.

You cannot switch tracking back on for your customers' phones. What you can do is send more signal: the Conversions API, customer email and phone with each purchase, and a high event match quality. Jon Loomer reported that Meta removed the old rule to rank eight conversion events per domain in Aggregated Event Measurement, and that domain verification is no longer required for event setup. It is still worth verifying your domain in Business Settings, since Meta recommends it.

Could a consent banner block my Pixel?

Yes. If your cookie banner holds the Pixel until a shopper clicks accept, every visitor who ignores or declines it is invisible to the Pixel. Test this in a private browser window: decline cookies, buy, and see whether Purchase fires. The Conversions API can still send the order where your consent rules allow it.

What changes on November 12, 2026?

Meta is rolling out a Pixel setting called "Measure conversions on customer devices". Stape reported that it is scheduled for November 12, 2026, is on by default for eligible advertisers, and is not active for people in the EU and UK. Stape notes that attributed purchases and reported ROAS could rise even when real sales stay the same. We explain the setting and how to find it in Meta Pixel Will Count More Sales From November 12.

How do I check whether this is hurting my sales?

  1. Export Meta purchases by day for the last 30 days.
  2. Export paid orders and sessions by day from Shopify or WooCommerce for the same days.
  3. Divide Meta purchases by real orders. A ratio far below 1 means missing purchases. A ratio well above 1 suggests duplicates.
  4. Work out ROAS from real orders: revenue from orders in your store divided by Meta spend. Compare it with Meta's reported ROAS.
  5. Repeat after every fix, and again after November 12.

If Meta under counts purchases, its delivery system learns from fewer buyers, which could push budget to the wrong ads. That is why tracking costs money even when the ads themselves are fine.

Key facts

  • Meta's developer documentation says Pixel and Conversions API events are deduplicated only when eventID and event_id match and the event names match.
  • Matching events are only deduplicated within 48 hours of the first event with that ID, according to the same documentation.
  • Stape reported on October 22, 2026 that "Measure conversions on customer devices" is scheduled to roll out on November 12, 2026 and is on by default for eligible advertisers.
  • Stape says the setting does not run for people in the EU and UK and does not change your attribution window.
  • Jon Loomer reported that Meta removed the need to rank eight events per domain and to verify domains for event configuration.

FAQ

Why does Meta show more purchases than Shopify?

Usually two Pixels fire, or the Pixel and Conversions API send the same order without a matching event_id. Check the Pixel Helper for duplicate IDs and confirm both sides use the order ID.

Why does Meta show fewer purchases than my store?

Some buyers are hidden by iPhone privacy settings, ad blockers or a consent banner, and some purchases never fire on the thank you page. Adding the Conversions API with customer email and phone usually recovers part of the gap.

How do I enable tracking on iOS?

You cannot enable it for your shoppers. Each iPhone user decides in their own settings. Your part is sending server events and good customer data so Meta can match more purchases.
