Meta Andromeda 2.0: What Changed on October 28, 2026

Quick answer

Meta Andromeda 2.0 is the name advertisers use for the next generation of Andromeda, the system that decides which ads even get a chance to be shown, which Meta described on October 28, 2026. It now scores every eligible ad on Facebook and Instagram with a model close to the quality of Meta's final ranking, and Meta says Andromeda has lifted Facebook conversions by about 2.4 percent since 2025. There is no new setting to switch on. What changes for store owners is creative: Meta treats ads that look or feel alike as one creative, so the brands that win are the ones feeding it genuinely different ideas.

What is Meta Andromeda?

Every time someone scrolls Facebook or Instagram, Meta has tens of millions of eligible ads and a few milliseconds to choose. It works in two steps. First, retrieval picks a short list of ads that could suit that person. Then a heavier ranking step and the auction decide which one they actually see.

Andromeda is the retrieval step. Meta first described it on December 2, 2024. If your ad is not on the short list, it never reaches the auction, however good your bid or budget is.

What changed in Andromeda 2.0 on October 28, 2026?

Meta's engineering blog post, "Meta Andromeda: Powering the Next Generation of Ads Retrieval Through Model-System Co-Design", lists the changes:

  1. Every eligible ad is scored. The new system scores every eligible ad with "near ranking-level" quality, at over 1 billion ads per second per server, which Meta says is about 100 times the 2024 system.
  2. Several views of each person. Instead of one model of each user, Meta now uses a group of specialised models fed by recent ad engagement, similar groups of people, Ai-read meaning and activity across Facebook and Instagram.
  3. The ad's content matters more. The ad side is read together with the moment it is shown, so what your ad says and shows does much of the targeting.
  4. Targeting rules still apply. Meta says advertiser targeting rules (country, age, gender, exclusions) are still enforced exactly at this step.

Meta's stated reason for the rebuild: generative Ai creative tools have helped advertisers create hundreds of millions of new ads, so the pool to choose from exploded.

Do I need to change anything in Ads Manager?

No setting changed and there is nothing to switch on. Meta's own line for advertisers is "better performance automatically". What you control is the material Andromeda chooses from.

Be careful with posts claiming Meta "leaked" a checklist. Meta published an engineering post, not a list of rules. Anything about exact numbers of ads per ad set comes from agencies, not from Meta.

Why do my ads count as one creative?

This is the part that matters most for e-commerce. Meta's business guidance from December 2025 says ads that look or feel alike are treated as variations of the same creative. Ten versions of one video with a new colour, crop or text overlay count as one idea.

What makes an ad genuinely different:

  1. The concept: the promise, the problem or the angle. "Better sleep" is a category; "mind racing after a stressful workday" is an ad.
  2. The format: talking head, product demo, static image, customer testimonial.
  3. The person and the setting: who speaks, where, to whom.
  4. The hook: the first 3 seconds or the first line.

Ads Manager now has a Creative diversity column that rates each ad set High, Medium or Low. You find it under Columns, then Customize columns. Meta calls it an estimate still in development and publishes no thresholds, so treat a Low rating as a prompt to add new concepts, not as a penalty.

How many ads should each ad set have after Andromeda 2.0?

Meta has never tied Andromeda to a number of ads. Its only published figure dates from November 2024: at least 20 diversified ads in an Advantage+ sales campaign, 20 to 30 percent of budget on testing new ads, and new ads every week.

A practical approach for a store spending a few thousand dollars a month:

  1. Run 3 to 6 genuinely different concepts per ad set, not 20 near copies.
  2. Add 1 or 2 new concepts every week instead of a big batch every month.
  3. Keep iterations (new hook, new colour) for concepts that are already selling.
  4. Turn off ads that spend for a week with no sales, so budget moves to concepts that work.

How do I check if Andromeda 2.0 is hurting my sales?

Do not blame the update without evidence. Check these in order:

  1. Real orders vs Meta purchases. If your store orders held steady but Meta purchases fell, it is a tracking issue, not delivery.
  2. Creative diversity. A Low rating plus rising frequency usually means your ads are seen as one idea and tiring together.
  3. CPM. Meta reported its average price per ad up about 14 percent in Q3 2026. Rising Q4 costs are market wide, so judge on ROAS.
  4. The store. A slow page, a broken Add to Cart in the Instagram app browser or a changed offer will drop sales whatever Andromeda does.

How do I check this automatically?

Run1Ads watches your ads, Pixel and store every hour and tells you when ads start to tire, when one concept is carrying the account, or when Meta purchases and real orders drift apart. It is read only and shows the fix in plain words, so you know whether a drop is creative, tracking or the store. You can see how it reads a sample account on the live demo.

FAQ

Is Andromeda 2.0 an official Meta name?

It is the name the industry uses. Meta calls it the next generation of Meta Andromeda, published on its engineering blog on October 28, 2026.

Does Andromeda 2.0 mean targeting no longer matters?

No. Meta says advertiser targeting rules are still enforced exactly. Inside those rules, your creative and each person's behaviour decide who sees the ad, so creative does more of the work than detailed interests.

Will more ads always improve my results?

Only if they are genuinely different. Meta groups look-alike ads, so 20 versions of one video behave like one creative. A weak offer will not be saved by more ads either.

Is there a tool that tells me when my ads are tiring or too similar?

Run1Ads checks your Meta ads, Pixel and store every hour, flags tired ads and concepts before ROAS falls, and tells you the one fix that matters today. It is read only and free for 14 days.
